In 1970 at the Million Dollar Round Table annual meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii, one of the main platform speakers included a bold and compelling Christian testimony in his presentation. As a result of this unprecedented event, several born-again Christians indicated they were followers of Jesus Christ and committed themselves to start a fellowship group.
In 1971, at the MDRT meeting in Washington, D.C., the fellowship group organized the first Prayer Breakfast now called the Christian Fellowship Breakfast. This function has been held every year since, currently early Monday morning before the opening of the annual MDRT meeting. Since its inception, thousands of people have been challenged and encouraged by Christian speakers at this annual event.
The Christian Fellowship Study Group began a year later in 1972 and met in Big Bear, California.
Around ten participants gathered for fellowship, prayer and Bible study. Currently, a group of forty to fifty men and women meets annually from Thursday evening through Saturday noon prior to each MDRT meeting. Participants come from all over the USA and Canada and as far away as Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Middle East, England and Ireland.
Two excellent Bible teachers have faithfully served the Christian Fellowship Study Group—J. Michael Montgomery, Th. M and Walter A. Henrichsen, M. Div. Mike has been with the Study Group since its inception in 1972 and several years later, Walt joined the group and taught for a number of years. The teaching each year is non-denominational and Bible-based, stressing the values, doctrine and fellowship common to faith in Jesus Christ. Throughout the entire year, the counsel and encouragement of these teachers are available to Study Group members through monthly teleconferences. The musical ministry of Marty Goetz www.martygoetz.com has also spiritually encouraged the group during our times of worship. In recent years we have invited outstanding guest speakers each year to share their insights and to challenge us.
The purpose of the Study Group is to study God’s word as it relates to the everyday life of MDRT members in regards to their personal relationship with God, their family, their community, their church and their business. In addition, the Study Group wishes to be an encouragement and a help to those who may be hurting or suffering.
A leadership team of 12 oversees the ministry of the Christian Fellowship Study Group and serves the members by organizing the annual retreat, the Fellowship Breakfast and teleconferences with Mike and Walt.
