K. Erik Thoennes, PhD Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies Chair, Biblical & Theological Studies; Theology Department Talbot School of Theology

Dr. Erik Thoennes is amazed every day that he is forgiven in Christ.  God has greatly blessed him with his godly wife Donna who has been his faithful ministry partner since they were married in 1989.  They have two daughters Caroline (b. 2000) and Paige (b. 2002).   He teaches theology at Biola University and is an elder at Grace Evangelical Free Church in La Mirada California.  He is committed to teaching theology so that he and his students love God and people more fully.  He strives to make the necessary connections between the biblically based study of theology, obedience to Jesus, and fulfilling the Great Commission. In 2002 and 2007 he was voted Professor of the year by the students, and was awarded the 2002 faculty excellence award by his colleagues at Biola University.  He has a Ph.D. in Systematic Theology from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, MAs in biblical theology and evangelism from Wheaton College Graduate School, and a BA in philosophy from Central Connecticut State University.  Before coming to Biola, he taught theology and evangelism at Wheaton College and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.  His primary research interests are the character of God, godly jealousy, the atonement, the person of Christ, and Christian views of humor, play, and sport.  Among his publications are; Godly Jealousy: A Theology of Intolerant Love (Christian Focus, 2005),  and “Created to Play: Thoughts on Play Sport and the Christian Life” The Image  of God in the Human Body: Essays on Christianity and Sports, (Edwin Mellen Press, 2008).  Some of the most enriching experiences of his life have been: meaningful local church involvement, hitchhiking around America, working with developmentally disabled adults and troubled youth, and playing American football in Europe after college.  Erik’s primary goal in life is to love and glorify Christ more each day and help others to as well.

Music with Mark Miller

 

Mark Miller has been leading worship around the country for the past twenty years. He has served as Director of Music at such notable congregations as Church in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As well, he has served as a regular worship leader at the Billy Graham Training Center at “The Cove”. Mark has shared the stage with the Buddy Greene, Lenny LeBlanc, Keith and Kristen Getty, Shane and Shane, and many others.

These days, Mark spends his time writing and performing his original music in music venues up and down the East Coast.

He hold degrees in music and theology, including a Master of Sacred Music degree from Emory University.

Most importantly, Mark is the Father of four children.
